Part 1: Chapter 7 Summary

All through June, Nora takes it upon herself to teach Einstein to read. Nora starts with a homemade primer, pasting pictures from magazines to one page and writing the word on the other. Einstein learns quickly, graduating from the primer to Dr. Suess-type books in just a few weeks. Travis watches this progress and is secretly happy. However, Travis teases Nora, insisting the dog cannot learn as it knows it will keep Nora going even when she gets frustrated. Eventually, Einstein can read adult novels. Nora and Travis buy a page-turning machine designed for disabled people for Einstein so they do not have to sit and hold his books for him.
