Summary

Nathaniel then shifts to narrating a speculative account of a specific mission of his mother’s that was detailed in a file about her. Rose and Marsh were both behind enemy lines in Italy. Rose’s position had been compromised, and a soldier had been assigned to help escort her to safety. Rose and the soldier met up with Marsh, who stated that the Italians may have discovered Rose’s true identity. Rose and the soldier moved on, and Marsh was captured and interrogated. They eventually let Marsh go, and Marsh realized that he had accidentally helped them identify Rose’s true identity.
