Point of View

The point of view of Warcross is first-person, exclusively through the eyes and emotions of Emika Chen, the protagonist over the course of a few months. A native New Yorker, 18-year-old Emika is a mostly reliable narrator though she is certainly not an omniscient narrator, as the end of the novel reveals. The reader is emotionally invested with Emika and her mission to stop Zero at the behest of her boss and later boyfriend, Hideo. Her point of view is not entirely reliable, as Emika often fails to draw conclusions or ask deeper questions about her assignment at first; she only questions Hideo's motivations and goodness after being prompted by something that Zero said to her.
