Oblivion Summary

Dirk Pitt is a retired USAF pilot who works for an agency known as NUMA. Pitt spends a great deal of his time searching out old shipwrecks. In fact, when this novel opens Pitt has just returned from raising the Titanic off the ocean bottom.

Colorado, January 1954. Major Vylander is preparing his aircraft for takeoff. Vylander has some reservations about this flight. The cargo Vylander is to fly is so heavy, he doubts whether his aircraft can make it into the air. Vylander is also concerned about the secretive nature of the cargo. Vylander does not like flying with the unknown. However, Vylander is a military officer and follows his order. Vylander and his crew begin their takeoff.
