Part Two: Chapters 14-15 (pg 181 - 213) Summary
Over the next eight days Alyx is held prisoner by Pagnell. There has been a trial, in which a jury of Pagnell's cousins finds Alyx guilty. Outside of Alyx's makeshift prison cell, she can see Pagnell's servants building gallows for her burning. Finally, the time comes for Alyx's execution. As Alyx ascends the stairs to her death, the crowd is bristling with excitement. It has been a while since they have seen a witch burning.
The guards tie her around the stake and bind her arms and legs. As she closes her eyes and welcomes her fate, she hears a familiar voice yell, " Get on with it." This causes Alyx to open her eyes. She then hears a woman yell, "Let me light the fire!" It is Rosamund. Alyx quickly surveys the scene and notices that many of the members from Raine's camp are in the crowd....
