Katie Baxter

Katie is a 17-year-old student who excels academically. However, she is not socially adept. She lives with her mother, Caroline, who controls every aspect of Caroline's life, and her 14-year-old brother, Christ, who has a developmental disorder. Katie is a caring person and she tries to be responsible, even when she feels that Caroline is asking too much of her. However, Katie is still a teenager and she often does not fully understand situations. When Caroline wants to put Mary in a nursing home, Katie is furious and feels that Caroline is being selfish. However, when Caroline leaves Katie at home one night to take care of Christopher and Mary, Katie realizes that she is unaware of all the care Mary actually requires. By the time Caroline returns home, Katie has a different understanding of the situation and can see it from her mother's perspective.
