Summary

Chapter 22 is the first chapter in Part Two. Mary is struggling to remember things, and it hurts to know that she is forgetting so much. Caroline is trying to make Mary take a pill, but Mary refuses and tells Caroline to “bugger off.” Mary says she prefers “the other one,” referring to Katie. Katie convinces her to take the pill and Mary says they can go to the cafe where Katie can talk to the girl she likes. By now, there is an official diagnosis that includes Alzheimer's. Katie takes care of Chris and Mary each day, though Caroline is often late to work. As she leaves, she thanks Katie for the help and said, “You're my good girl” (200).
