Chapter 9 Summary

Morelli asks Stephanie to wait until he returns from meetings at the Police Department before she goes to see Spiro with the finger. Finally, at 9:30, Stephanie drives the finger to Stiva's, with Morelli behind her. She straps the pepper spray and stun gun to her belt, in case she runs into Kenny again. On the way to the funeral parlor, she passes the funeral of the corpse that is missing his finger. She follows the procession, as Morelli warns her not to make a scene.

At the graveside, Stephanie tells Spiro that she has the finger and insists that the finger be put in the coffin with the rest of the body. Spiro tries for a compromise, but Stephanie threatens to make a scene, and he relents. Stephanie describes the funeral as typical for the 'burg, continuing from the graveside to the grieving...
