Chapter 8 Summary

While waiting for her car tire to be fixed, Stephanie snoops around the funeral home. She surmises that is it a nice, quiet place for Kenny to hide. Spiro, though, suggests the Kenny is hiding out with family. Stephanie doubts this, though, and asks about Kenny's dating habits. Spiro claims there have been a number of women in Kenny's life, despite his abusive tendencies.

On the search for leads on Kenny's entrance into the funeral home, Stephanie drives over to Clara's Beauty Salon. She explains that old-fashioned glamour is the norm in the 'burg. Society there has never been men versus women, but the weak versus the strong. In the salon is Joyce Barnhardt, whom the reader learns is the women that Stephanie's ex-husband cheated on her with.
