Summary

The chapter “Michael - November 1989” continues with Michael describing his vacation in France with Ellis. At that time, Ellis had discussed simply letting their train back to England pass, so they could pursue their romance in France together. Michael is excited, especially as their room remains unpacked when the day of the train finally arrives. However, when Michael goes on a quick errand to buy peaches at a corner store, Ellis quickly packs up the hotel room. Michael understands that this represents the end of their physical relationship. In concluding his story to Chris at the London AIDS hospital, Michael says that he has never loved anybody sense.
