Chapter 7 Summary

Buddy's mother has given a translator named Constantin Esther's phone number, so she visits the UN with him. He holds her hand and she feels happy for the first time in a long time. There is an episode while they are watching a UN debate during which her mind drifts off and she thinks of all the things she is not able to do, such as cooking and shorthand. She thinks of a very long list and realizes that she doesn't like the idea of serving men in any way. She feels very inadequate; the only thing she is good at is winning scholarships and prizes and that period of her life is coming to an end. Constantin takes her to lunch and it makes her feel so good that she decides that.....
