Chapters 21-24 Summary
In Chapter Twenty-One, Dee tells Josh to drive through the Nereids. This works at first, but soon they are surrounded and being pulled under by these strong fish women. Josh uses his intelligence, and the abilities of another whose memories he has, to scare away the Nereids temporarily. They continue on towards Alcatraz Island.
In Chapter Twenty-Two, Nicholas is close to death and Perenelle asks to be alone with him, Sophie, and Tsagaglalal. Perenelle needs their help to revive Nicholas for one more day. She tells Tsagaglalal and Sophie about her encounter with Death and his prophecy for her future. She knows that she has the ability to give Nicholas one more day of life for one of hers, but she needs Sophie and Tsagaglalal to give her their auras.
