Summary

The epilogue takes place two years after Ethan and Olive reconcile and is written from Ethan's point of view.

Ethan, Olive are on a plane to Maui, this time joined by Ami and her new boyfriend, Lucas. Lucas is Ethan's longtime friend and physician who he set up with Ami. Olive wakes Ethan up to look at the view as they get close to the island. He looks at her and thinks, "Ami's excitement is infectious, but Olive's is nearly blinding. Things were hard for her for a long time after losing her job, but it also gave her a clarity she'd never had before. She realized that, while she loved science, she didn't particularly love her job"(383). Ethan recounts how Olive met a woman who ran a nonprofit while waiting tables at the restaurant and she ended up hiring Olive as a community...
