Aberdeen

Aberdeen is the city in Scotland where Sammar lives and works. She was also born here. Though her parents were from Khartoum, she did not return to this familial city of origin until she was seven years old.

Years later, she made a life with Tarig in Aberdeen. She decided to continue living here even after his death, because the place tied her to her late husband. However, Sammar remains detached from the city. She hates the cold, and the grayness, often longing for the warmth and colors of Sudan.

When she realizes she is in love with Rae, her feelings towards the city change. Suddenly Aberdeen is a place of hope, possibility, and belonging.
