Chapters 1-5 Summary

Mitch Rapp is walking around the ground of Count Hagenmiller's mansion, checking the situation out for his mission later that evening. He notices the Count has hunting dogs and curses that no one told him. However, though annoying, they are not guard dogs and should not pose a problem.

He goes back into the forest and knocks on the door of a hut three times. Someone slowly opens the door until Mitch sees two eyes staring intently. Once the person realizes it is Mitch, he lets him in. The man's name is Jim Hoffmann, and he is here with his wife, Jane, listening to a radio. Like Mitch, they are both CIA agents, though Mitch has never met them before. He asks Jane how many people will be present at the party, and she tells him 50.
