Summary

Li-yan struggles with her baby-ready body. Meanwhile, Mr. Huang returns for more tea and A-ma believes that San-pa will never come back. A-ma discovers that Li-yan has sold leaves from their grove and tells Li-yan she has sold her honor. Her family begins to ignore her and she sleeps under the house with the animals. All three sister-in-laws are pregnant at the same time. Suddenly, San-pa returns with gifts to seal their wedding. San-pa is now very forceful and he and Li-yan are allowed to marry. At the marriage ceremony, Li-yan is given a rain cap, new cloths, nice seed to start their own garden and bangles for her new headdress. All four women, including A-ma, give Li-yan advice on how to leave a husband. They then travel to San-pa...
