Summary

After a few days of rain, Arthur visits Nola. When he returns, he finds cat food in a box and a picture of Gordon. There is an accompanying note from Maddy, who lets Arthur know her birthday is tomorrow and that she hopes to see him tomorrow. He decides to give Maddy the figurine of Mr. and Mrs. Hamburger as a present. In his zeal to find wrapping paper, Arthur overexerts himself and feels pains in his body. That night, Arthur has a dream where he spends time with a younger Nola and where they passionately embrace one another. He abruptly awakes and tries to fall back asleep to continue to the dream but cannot and cries instead. The next morning, with his entire body aching, Arthur decides not to leave the house.
