Part VI, Chapters I - VII Summary

Ten years have passed since Thea left the United States for Germany. Archie has earned wealth and a new position with the San Felipe Mining Company. He is no longer just a country doctor. While he takes messages from his secretary Archie learns a character by the name of Jasper Flight wants the company to grub-stake him again. Although the secretary seems disdainful of the old, eccentric man, Archie speaks of him fondly and agrees to the stake. Ottenburg stops by Archie's office and is admitted. The two men greet each other warmly and make dinner plans.
