Summary

Chapter 5 is set in November 1992. Inspector Gert Rafto and three of his crime scene officers arrived by cable car at the scene of a murder on top of a mountain. A woman had been murdered and cut up into multiple pieces. When Rafto suggested the murderer had been wearing boots too large because of the unevenness of the prints, his colleagues seemed to think he was showing off. He had gotten a bad reputation because things stolen from crime scenes had been found in Rafto’s desk and he was made a scapegoat for other misdeeds by the police department. His daughter was being teased at school so his wife at the time had left with the daughter and not returned. Rafto tried to redeem himself but was never completely allowed to do so.
