Summary

As Strike starts out for Leonora's, in Chapter 21, three photojournalists confront him, taking photos and flinging questions at him. He is forced to jump into a taxi in order to get to the Tube. Someone at the Metropolitan Police Department, he figures, must have leaked the fact that he was the one who found the body. He calls Anstis to ask him to rebut the media's claim that Strike did not call the police earlier because he wanted the publicity.

When he reaches the Quine home, he finds Jerry Waldgrave there with flowers for Leonora. Jerry wants to see if Owen left a copy of Bombyx Mori in his study or anything related to his manuscript. Leonora explains that the police have taken everything and locked the study. She cannot even make funeral arrangements because the police will not let her have her...
