Summary

Chapter Five begins in the past as Paul talked to a creative writing buddy named Jenny Chambers. The two discussed each other’s stories and how much they liked them. Jenny had written about a dog who had been abused by his master until the man passed away and the dog was forced to eat his corpse as nobody found him. Jenny says the best stories are the unexpected ones and hers was based on a true event. Paul had written about a man walking through the town and heading back to the home he had grown up in, but he left it ambiguous as to whether or not the man made it.
