Chapter Fourteen Summary

In Chapter Fourteen, Desiree is not feeling well the next morning. When she finally wakes, she invites him in to have some wine with her. He stops after a sip but she encourages him to drink it all. That night Rose notices a change in Jean-Marc right away. He looks old. He admits to Rose that he has been forgetting many things. Rose lies beside him and allows him to put his hand on her back. She realizes that she loves him. He tells her that all of his life he had waited for someone to love him. Now, Rose gives him the gift of love.
