Summary

In Chapter 43, Cem and Enver arrive at the well that Cem and Mahmut dug more than 25 years prior. Serhat reveals himself to be Enver, and he seems quite angry with Cem. Cem and Enver engage in a dialogue involving religion, politics, and aesthetics. Enver decries secularism and modernity, Cem, becoming fearful of the idea that Enver may murder him to inherit his fortune, tries to distract Enver by engaging in the discussion. However, Enver angrily chastises Cem for not responding to the letter he sent. Enver says that a father should be kind and offer a feeling of security.
