Summary

In Chapter 4, “The Cook and the Butler,” Owen feels a sense of peace in the palace kitchen, which is very much like the kitchen at Tatton Hall. Princess Elyse introduces Liona, the head cook, and promises that she and Liona will help look out for Owen. Liona knew Jorganon and speaks fondly of him. She asks about Elyse's mother, the queen, who is in sanctuary at Our Lady. Owen speaks for the first time since he left Tatton Hall, telling Liona that he is eight. Liona and Elyse talk about the small white spot in Owen's hair, and Owen says he never thinks about it except when someone mentions it, which happens often. Liona assures Owen she is his friend and that he should come to her whenever he needs reassurance.
