Summary

In Chapter 13, Four and Medallion ride back towards Nine using Medallion’s motorcycle. However, the motorcycle runs out of gas. As they walk, Medallion says that when the road is finished, he will drive his wife to the capital city for medical help, as she is ill. Medallion speaks of various ways in which the civil war made life difficult for him and other locals. Babies have been born with defects due to shortages of midwives. Many men have used the chaos of war as an excuse to rape women. Medallion also hints towards the fact that Four’s company is technically profiting off of the effects of the war.
