Summary

Chapter 13 – The shadow version of Thane slams Ceony into a wall, telling her she has no business being there. She tells him she is trying to save him. Shadow-Thane says no one can save him. He blames himself for the people who died at the hands of the Excisioners. Ceony insists that Thane was manipulated by Lira. Shadow-Thane then destroys Fennel, which breaks Ceony’s heart. She says this isn’t Thane, but then Lira begins speaking from all around. She says that no man can harm his true love in his own heart. Shadow-Thane harming Ceony means he doesn’t love her, but Ceony realizes that her love for Thane could make him love her, that he simply doesn’t love her yet. This motivates her to fight back.
