Summary

In Chapter 37, Arcturus summons Fletcher to his office and explains why he chose to sponsor Fletcher's time at Vocans Academy. Arcturus says he was an orphan with no money and no hope for the future when he stole a scroll from a young noble and used it to summon a Canid puppy. Arcturus was the first commoner to summon a demon, which prompted officials to begin allowing commoners into the summoner program. Acturus goes on with his explanation, saying that the first-born of noble families are “adepts,” or summoners with magic ability. Their other children have a slight chance to inherit the skills. A lord can have an illegitimate child with another woman, and that woman's first-born child will be an adept as well.
