Summary

In Chapter 7, Fletcher and Rotherham begin to get acquainted. Berdon excuses Fletcher from his work and they go to the tavern. Fletcher knows little of the outside world and asks Rotherham questions. Rotherham reveals that an albino orc has begun uniting all the orc tribes. King Harold, only recently crowned, has been pushing into orc territory which has escalated the war. Rotherham says the summoners are able to shield the human army and the demons play a role in security. Didric arrives and demands the book. Rotherham refuses and prepares to fight, saying they will not use weapons. He quietly warns Fletcher to “Fight dirty, and go for the face” (39). Didric and Fletcher fight while Rotherham and Jakov fight. Didric pulls a dagger but Rotherham shouts a warning and holds a knife to Didric's throat. Rotherham allows him to leave and the men...
