Edward Tulane

Edward Tulane is the title character of the novel. He is a china rabbit who stands 3 feet tall and has real fur on his ears and tail. He does not love anyone, only himself at the beginning of the novel. When he is accidentally thrown overboard from a ship during a trip to London, Edward begins a life changing journey to find his way back home. Edward is stranded at the bottom of the ocean where he begins to think that he has been cursed by Pellegrina.

He becomes "Susanna" while living with Nellie and Lawrence, where he learns how to listen to others. When he is put in the garbage dump, he becomes depressed as he begins to lose hope in ever finding a home again.
