Nora is the protagonist of the novel. Nora is depressed and lonely. She suffers from a constant need for validation from those around her. Nora spends her life seeking the approval of her family and friends, but often feels disappointed in their behavior towards her. In essence, she tends to victimize herself. Above all, Nora fears change and disappointing others. Nora has never left Bedford in all her life, until she steps into the magical world of the midnight library.
