Summary

The novel opens with a map of Pyrrhia, the imaginary land where this novel is set. The opening section is titled A NightWing Guide to the Dragons of Pyrrhia. There are seven pages, one for each of the seven tribes of dragons. Each page has an image of that kind of dragon followed by a description, their abilities, the name of the queen, and the alliances they have formed in the ongoing war. The five dragon tribes are SandWings, MudWings, SkyWings, SeaWings, IceWings, RainWings, and NightWings. The next section is The Dragonet Prophecy and it is a poem of a prophecy about five dragonetss that will bring an end to an ongoing war caused by three SandWing sisters who are fighting for the throne left vacant when a scavenger (human) killed their mother.
