Summary

Chapter 13 opens with Avery and Parker going to a bar called the Fold. Greg Randolph spots them and tells Avery that she is "'Sadie's monster'" (143). Avery is able to slip out and gets into Parker's trunk. She finds the diary that is supposed to be Sadie's in Parker's trunk but realizes it is her own diary that she has not seen in years. Here, Avery acknowledges that both the diary and the supposed suicide note both belong to her.

In Chapter 14, Avery finds Parker waiting for her. They share drinks with Greg and leave three hours later. Avery thinks about being Sadie's monster and wonders who, of everyone who knew her, wanted but could not have her. Parker invites Avery inside, but she declines. Parker then grabs her wrist and kisses her. Avery images Parker choking her to death and pulls away. Avery...
