Chapter Eight Summary

Something is moving in the shadow of the trees, gliding slowly. At first, it looks like smoke, but it is grey. The smell was not of smoke. It has the shape of a man and the head of a bird with a cruel, curved beak. The grass seemed to wither beneath it.
