Chapters 8-14 Summary

In chapter 8 Victoria discusses the homeschool regimen Elizabeth set up for them. Victoria found the schedule exhausting but it never changed or grew. Over 8 months Elizabeth and Victoria had grown closer and the day that Elizabeth would be able to adopt Victoria was marked brightly on her calendar and only 4 months away.

But when Victoria hears Elizabeth leaving Catherine a message saying that she's the only family Elizabeth has, Victoria feels rage. Entering the house and seeing Elizabeth, Victoria is ready to yell at her but begins crying instead. They cry together and the chapter ends with Elizabeth telling Victoria that she loves her.

At the beginning of chapter 9 the reader learns that Victoria continued to stay with Grant, although he continues to sleep somewhere else. One night Grant brings home a whole chicken and prepares a delicious meal for them...
