Chapters 25-30 Summary

Chapter 25: The Benefit

The Benefit finally arrives. This year it is expected to raise $6000. People arrive and Hilly inspects their attire. Celia and Johnny arrive late. Johnny worries that Celia is dressed inappropriately. The men appreciate the dress, the women do not. Celia tries to approach Hilly about the lie regarding not needing help with the Benefit. Hilly goes to talk to Johnny and flirts. Johnny cannot wait for Celia to return. Johnny compares Hilly to Antarctica; Celia to Hawaii.

Hilly wins a pie baked by Minny. Hilly is angry. Celia finally talks to Hilly. Celia tries to walk away and rips Hilly's dress. The conversation takes over the room. Hilly talks about the pie; Celia says she has no idea what Hilly is talking about but Hilly does not believe it. Celia vomits and runs off.
