Summary

Cordélia Owl tells Dr. Révol she is taking a cigarette break. He has asked her to stay late to help out with Simon's operation. While smoking, she checks her phone, and seeing that her lover has not called, begins to cry. Another nurse believes Cordélia is crying about work, but really she is upset about her life - being single at 32 and in love with a man who does not love her back, living in a cockroach-infested apartment, and having a lack of close friends. As she turns to go back inside, she sees Sean and Marianne. She takes out her phone, dials her lover, says “I love you” (164) and hangs up. Afterwards, she feels better.

Marianne and Sean return to Marianne's apartment, where Sean plans to stay for the night. They sit in silence and agony for a moment...
