Summary

Chapters 8-11

Chapter 8

Lechner convenes the council so that they can discuss the imprisoned drivers. They discuss the fire and decide that their priority is to torture Martha Stechlin. However, Lechner says that if she does not confess to the fire as well as the murders, he will question the drivers.

Clara has a nightmare, but she wakes safe in the hideout she shares with her friends. Sophie is there, too. Sophie is worried about Clara because she still has the fever that had kept her in bed. Now, she also has a broken ankle and a bruised shoulder. To help Clara rest peacefully, Sophie gives her a drink of a potion that she has made.
