Tafjord, Maer District

Tafjord is King Hunthiof's seat of power in the district of Maer, which Hunthiof rules. It is Solvi's home and the setting of several important scenes in the novel. It is here where Harald and Guthorm threaten to take over Hunthiof's lands. It is also where Solvi and Svanhild are married.

Ardal, Sogn District

Ardal is the home of Ragnvald, Svanhild, Olaf, and his wives. It was originally owned by Ragnvald's father before he was killed and Olaf took over. Ragnvald's grandfather also ruled over the district of Sogn before Raganvald's father lost most of that land. This setting is where readers first meet Svanhild and Olaf. It is also important because it is the place that Ragnvald is fighting to own throughout the novel. It is also the place where Olaf dies at the end of the novel.
