Summary

Chapter 7 is in Ragnvald's first-person narration as he joins Hrolf's family for dinner. At first Hrolf welcomes Ragnvald, asking him about how he managed to survive Solvi's attack. When Ragnvald finishes retelling his account, he asks Egil to stand up for him at the trial. Hrolf intervenes, telling Ragnvald that his son Egil does not owe Ragnvald anything and he does not want his family to become an enemy of Solvi's family. This makes Ragnvald extremely angry and he tells Egil that it is the honorable thing to do. Hrolf responds and says that only kings and jarls are concerned with honor and Ragnvald is neither since his father lost his lands. Ragnvald leaves Hrolf's tent furious once Hrolf dismisses him. Hilda follows Ragnvald and tells him that she still wants to be married to him. Ragnvald kisses her and they part ways...
