Summary

In Chapter 49, Kofi tells Adunni that Big Madam’s sister has had an accident and is undergoing surgery in the hospital, Big Madam at her side. With their boss away, the two friends talk about the socio-economic and political truth that despite the official attempt to end human-trafficking in Nigeria in 2003, there still exists an extensive economy of slave-trade in Nigeria, especially of underage girls, one of which is Adunni herself. Having read about the slave trade in the [Book of Nigerian Facts] she confidently declares her goals to Kofi to make “‘her-story,’ instead of ‘history’” (240).
