Part 2, Chapter 4 Summary

Later that night, as Eddie sleeps, Odetta transforms into Detta. In Detta's mind, she has been tortured and starved by the two white men. She wakes and immediately moves to attack. Luckily, Roland has anticipated that this might happen and has remained awake. When Detta attacks Eddie, Roland is able to stop her. The two men tie her into her wheelchair. For the next several days, the three of them travel across the beach heading north to find the next door. All along the way, Detta curses the two men and tries to topple over her wheelchair to slow them down. Roland is growing weaker and weaker as his infection reappears.

Detta's behavior is troubling to both men but only Roland is capable of linking Odetta and Detta together. Eddie wants to.....
