Book 2, Inquisition: Chapters 8-11 Summary

In Chapter 8, Ali is taken to the Galapagos Islands where Helios Corporation has set up a way station that contains multiple elevators that take passengers into the depths of the earth under the Pacific Ocean. Ali is nervous on the trip down, but an orange given to her by Ike helps her focus and keep calm.

Incident at Piedras Negras. Osprey is a scientist who follows the migration patterns of monarch butterflies. As Osprey collects a few of the butterflies, he falls into a sinkhole. Attempting to find a way out, Osprey crawls through a narrow tunnel and comes to a larger tunnel. In this tunnel are a group of hadals. Osprey goes insane as the hadals tattoo his body with giant butterfly wings and is allowed to wander unattended through the bowels of the earth.
