Summary

Chapter 1

Strike visits ULU to shower once more and seeks out an appointment with Guy Some. While waiting, he tries to call Rochelle, but there is no response. This has happened ten times a day since he met her. Some then meets with Strike. Some is short, thin, and gay. He explains he always called Lula “Cuckoo.” Some is surprised to learn that Strike is making more than minimum detective wages because now John has his sister’s money to throw around. Some explains he was in Japan, then home, hours before Lula died. He went home by cab because Elsa, his former assistant, messed up the car booking. She was fired for it.
