Chapter 10 Summary

Garand rifles are issued to the men in the Platoon Leader's Course. Malcolm Pickering is in the course. Pick is not in uniform because he has not had time to unpack. Pick sees McCoy at breakfast and McCoy tells him that he was right about the freeze on discharges. McCoy tells Pick that they will make it hard on him if they find he is friends with McCoy. He says to stay away and they have some time off.

McCoy decides he is not going to waste several hours trying to clean an uncleanable rifle and goes and gets his car. He cleans the Cosmoline off the rifle using a solvent at the gas station.
