Elaine and Francie's Apartment

Elaine and Francie's apartment is located in Portland, Oregon. Francie grows up here with Elaine, and without a father. While living in the house, Francie often locks herself in her bedroom in order to escape her mother's psychotic episodes. Every night after Elaine tucks her in, she meticulously arranges Francie's stuffed animals. After Elaine leaves, Francie knocks down the animals, and locks her mother out. When Francie is eight, she leaves the Portland apartment to move to California with her aunt, uncle, and cousin. She tries as hard as possible not to think of the apartment, and the life it represents.
