Summary

While Nathan and Tom are in Vermont, Harry receives a visit from Gordon Dryer and Myron Trumbell, the man to whom Harry had planned to sell the manuscript. Gordon has told Myron about Harry’s past and about how Harry was going to sell Myron a forged manuscript. Gordon and Myron extort Harry for money, saying they will turn Harry in to the police for his complicity in the forged manuscript unless he gives them all of his money and belongings. Harry, panicked, does not think about how Gordon would have to turn himself in if he turned in Harry. Harry runs to Nancy Mazzucchelli and tells her everything, and then he dies of a stress-induced heart attack. Nathan finds Harry’s will, which leaves Brightman’s Attic to his two employees: Tom Wood and Rufus Sprague. Nathan realizes that this generosity represents Harry...
