Summary

Chapter 12 is titled “Water/Boston.” Brian is furious and immediately accuses Dawn of targeting him as someone who would raise another man's child without question. Dawn says she did not know the truth and thinks back through that time. She now realizes she may have been hiding the truth from herself. She also realizes that the time waiting for her mother to die felt like months, but it was actually only weeks.

Dawn says she left home weeks earlier, after finding out about Brian's encounter with Gita, intending to go to the airport. She changed her mind because of a text from Meret. She realizes now that she was not particularly angry or hurt, but was largely indifferent about Brian's confession.
