Summary

Chapter 8 is titled “Water/Boston.” Dawn picks up Meret at her new camp, this one with an array of focuses rather than just science. Meret says everyone was “really nice” but admits she fell into the trap of making fun of another kid because her newfound peers were doing so. She then says the tennis coach pointed out a private area for those who did not want to change in front of others while “she looked over at me” (281). Dawn is out of the car before Meret can explain more. She confronts the coach who seems confused at Dawn's tone, saying she suggested Meret try out for tennis. Meret catches up, diffuses the situation, and tells Dawn that she was happy because this coach was the first who thought Meret could do something physical. Back in the car...
