Chapters 14-16 Summary

In chapter 14, May's attitude toward Ruth begins to change. May is excited about the baby and the prospect of a new life brings this odd family back together. May talks about her babies and shares stories with Ruth and her friend, Dee Dee. Ruth is terribly sick in the beginning, often missing work to deal with morning sickness. During this time, Randall is caught in an embarrassing situation. Ruth goes to him and offers him words of encouragement as well as a few kisses. As the pregnancy continues, Ruth and Ruby attend birthing classes. Unfortunately, they fell like outcasts among the professionals also attending the class.
