Summary

Christine rehearses with her acting troupe. She hopes to use the performance to rescue Trinculo and flee with him to Earth, using a form of transportation called a Skyline. Trinculo has asked to be burned at the stake, as Joan supposedly was. Christine recalls Joan's execution, how it had been done using special effects to hide the fact that she escaped. In addition to freeing Trinculo, Christine plans to kill Jean de Men and destroy CIEL. She recalls Joan's last stand against de Men in the Alberta Tar Sands. The point-of-view switches to Joan's, and Joan has a premonition about Earth's future, and how terrible it will be for everyone if the war continues. She puts her hands in the dirt and brings about the massive cataclysm to stop the premonition from coming true.
